Thermomix TM5

The benefits of having a second bowl, blade and lid set

You’ve already experienced the time and money-saving benefits of cooking with Thermomix – now imagine what you can do with a second bowl, blade, and lid set!

It was my daughter’s birthday last month and of course, I had to bake her a cake. Her favourite is my vanilla cake with buttercream icing. Whilst I have a well-stocked larder, it’s not that well stocked when she says she wants to take a second cake back to school. I needed more icing sugar and having a second bowl handy to make a new batch of icing sugar from granulated is always helpful.

Since I do a lot of baking, I love having two bowls for suddenly having to mill that sugar or almonds, or even when I suddenly need ground cinnamon and only have cinnamon sticks. Two bowls are ever so handy and probably, in my opinion, the best accessory to have with a Thermomix.

Top 5 reasons for having a second bowl, blade, and lid set.

  1. Make ingredients from scratch – mill almond meal, icing sugar, or grated Parmesan cheese without stopping the flow of your recipe. Save time when you need to mill sugar, spices, or grains or grate cheese mid recipe.
  2.  A sparkling clean bowl is a secret to fluffy whipped egg whites and meringue. Use your second bowl to whip your egg whites, and keep your first to continue on with the rest of the recipe. Two of our favourites are the Chiffon Cake and Chocolate Mousse.
  3. Simply being able to swap bowls to reduce cleaning or save time when waiting for ingredients to cool or rest
  4. If you’re catering for special dietary requirements, you may like to allocate one bowl for those recipes to avoid cross-contamination.
  5. Keep one bowl for sweet dishes and one for savoury meals like curries, especially handy if you don’t want your lid stained with turmeric for those who use it.

You can purchase your second through me as an Advisor, at any point. They are priced at £169 and it’s money spent well. It is delivered by DPD courier, which is fully tracked and traced and with free shipping.

What’s in the second bowl, blade, and lid set box?

  • Stainless steel bowl with handle
  • Bowl base
  • Mixing knife
  • Lid with a seal
  • Newly improved measuring cup
  • Simmering basket

Bowl, blade and lid setFor anyone reading this in November 2021, there is discounted price when you purchase it as part of Vorwerk’s Black Friday sale.  You can purchase a TM6 Accessory set which includes. second bowl, blade, and lid set (mixing bowl complete) PLUS a Thermomix Spatula and a Blade Cover for £140. This would normally be priced at £200, so you are receiving a 30% discount and saving £60.

For those with a TM5, you can also purchase a TM5 Accessory set which is the same except with a TM5 bowl.

Benefits of Thermomix Friend

Thermomix Friend is a cooking companion for your Thermomix. It is designed to cook with the Thermomix® TM6 and TM5. The Thermomix Friend operates on reverse and up to speed 2, in the temperature range of 37°C to Varoma, and with a cooking time of up to 2 hours. In this blog post, I will give you the top 5 benefits of owning a Thermomix Friend and why you would want one in your kitchen.

Top 5 Benefits of Thermomix Friend

  1. Thermomix Friend is small, compact; ready for use, or easy to put away.
  2. Thermomix Friend is a complementary accessory to your Thermomix, it can only go up to speed 2 and always in reverse. It makes it perfect for simmering, sauteing, and stirring.
  3. Thermomix Friend is ideal for time savings and bulk-cooking.
  4. Thermomix Friend can be used in conjunction with Thermomix through guided cooking or can be used standalone manually.
  5. Thermomix can be used for parallel cooking – for example – making two sauces for a midweek meal – tomato sauce in one, cheese sauce in the other – ideal for fussy later, those with allergies or simply to create more choice at dinner time.

What the Thermomix Friend isn’t?

  1. It isn’t a Thermomix replacement.  The Thermomix Friend can be used alongside the Thermomix TM5 and Thermomix TM6 using blue-tooth and guided cooking, but it does not replace a Thermomix.
  2. It cannot chop or blend. The Thermomix Friend operates on the reverse and up to speed 2. Therefore, the initial chopping for a recipe, such as a soup or a curry, needs to be done in the Thermomix and then the bowl transferred to your Thermomix Friend to free up your Thermomix to do something else.

Do you really need it?

Well, that is the million-dollar (or pound) question, isn’t it?

If you have a Thermomix TM5 or Thermomix TM6 and need more capacity, then I think it’s great. Priced at £529 for the base and bowl bundle, this is an excellent option to upscale your kitchen. You’ll on my Youtube channels or my Tasty Thursday events, I have really been enjoying using the Thermomix Friend multiple times each week since I received mine in December 2020. I use it mainly for making rice or potatoes and then using the Varoma to steam above it.

Here is a video of my making one of the Thermomix Friend dishes – a delicious Salmon with Potatoes and Mushroom Creamy sauce found on Cookidoo here.

I have had many customers who currently have a Thermomix TM5 and were thinking of upgrading to Thermomix TM6 and Thermomix Friend. At this point, my independent opinion is to keep your Thermomix TM5 and upgrade to the Thermomix TM6. Why? Well, we’ve always said, what’s better than one Thermomix but two. Having two Thermomixes gives you the capabilities of truly doubling your cooking experience and if you have space, then keep it. We all know the value of a Thermomix once we have one in our kitchen, and if upgrading means selling yours on, then we also know that the resale market doesn’t really appreciate the real value of it. You are likely to get £600-750 for a Thermomix TM5 on the second-hand market, but it’s probably worth a lot more than that in reality.

So in my opinion, the Thermomix Friend is amazing. Just like any product that Vorwerk brings out, this is game-changing and ahead of the times. It’s the most perfect accessory for our Thermomixes. The price point is approximately half the cost of a Thermomix, so with that, the features and capabilities are also reduced.  But as an accessory, it’s amazing; you will love as much as you love your Thermomix.

I’m always asked for what my recommendations are, so here are my Affiliate Links:

  • Microplane Zester Grater in Black for Citrus Fruits, Hard Cheese, Ginger, Chocolate and Nutmeg with Fine Stainless Steel Blade – Made in USA
  • Le Creuset Classic Utensil Jar, Stoneware, 1.1 litres, Coastal Blue
  • Le Creuset Classic Salt and Pepper Set – Teal
  • Portmeirion Sophie Conran White 16 Piece Dinner Set

If you would like to see the Thermomix Friend in action, now that it is available to buy in the UK, please get in touch with me on, or send me a text/ Whatsapp or call me on 07977 563537. I look forward to hearing from you.

Ankita at TM6 launch

Do you need to upgrade your Thermomix?

Following the big surprise announcement last week about the Thermomix TM6, we as Advisors are equally excited, surprised and shocked. I was at a Team Leader Leadership conference having training on the usual look after your team, why getting together is important, let’s learn skills (that I already have…). It was a pretty routine meet-up; good food, great catching up with colleagues around the UK and some official stuff thrown in. When we reached dinner time, we were all tired and hungry wanting to wind down and relax. My colleagues and I had no idea, that we were about to experience the global launch of the Thermomix TM6. So when it happened, we were in shock.

The Thermomix TM5 is the 5th generation of Thermomix and it was launched on 5th September 2014, 10 years after the Thermomix TM31 which was launched in 2004.  We were all expecting a new model, of course, we were, but circa 2024; not on 8th March 2019, just four and a half years later.

Since I was introduced to Thermomix 10 years ago, is there a ’next model is coming’ has been a constant question, as it has been for the past 10, 20, 30 or 40 years they have been produced. Why? It’s true, that’s why!

Vorwerk and Thermomix is an innovative company, from the day a model is released, they are constantly working on tweaks, adjustments, and new functions. Fact. They often make these along the way too, so a TM ordered in January may be ever so slightly different to the one you order in February. Fact. That is what makes Thermomix so good and stands miles apart from copycats and other appliances in the first place! Fact.

So, back to the dilemma at hand, what to do? To upgrade or not? For those who have been following my journey, I was a TM31 customer first. I thought it was the best thing since sliced bread which is why I jumped on the bandwagon and became an Advisor. I couldn’t understand how Vorwerk could ever improve it. Until they did with the Thermomix TM5. Had I not been an Advisor, an upgrade wouldn’t have been necessary as I was perfectly happy with my current model.

In fact, as I then had two Thermomix TM31s and TM5, for the first 6 months, my TM5 was used as a demonstration model and my TM31 on my kitchen counter. It was what came first and what I was most comfortable with. Over time that changed, the more I used my new Thermomix TM5, the more I fell in love with its improvements. I expect the same will happen with Thermomix TM6, when I do receive it in June 2019. The only difference now is I have 3 TM5s, 1 TM31 and will have a TM6 too. I probably need to give some away before my husband divorces me for having too many Thermomixes.

Am I cross or upset about the new model? Shocked, initially (of course) but not cross. I’ve had some time to think about it. This is much like when Apple launched the iPhone X. Was this a new snazzier model with more bells and whistles? Yes. Did it make the 6/7/8 any less good? No! The X had more bells and whistles and a price point that came with that. I have an iPhone 8, only because my contract was up and I switched to a new provider. It is still great, has a brilliant camera and does all the things I need. New models and technology improvements happen all the time. It’s the way of the world and at some point, I will upgrade. I am still happy that I bought my iPhone 8 and got all that use out of the clever camera modes etc. before the new one was launched.

Has the Thermomix benefitted me? Of course, it has. I can cook healthy, nutritious meals for my children and family, in a super quick time. I use it every single day. That is not going to change, no matter how many new models come out over its lifetime, it has been a game-changer in our home. It not only met my needs, but it also surpassed my expectations and I, like almost every owner I know, love it more and more the more we use it. We realise it does far more than we ever thought and the more you learn about it the more you integrate it into your everyday cooking!

You can see from the previous pages that I’ve summarised the new functions and compared the models. The new Thermomix TM6 is great and does have improved and new modes which are exciting. However, many of the functions are the same as the TM5. Do I really need it? No. However, as an Advisor & Team Leader in the UK, I am required to have the latest model we are providing to customers to demonstrate to people and continue being able to share my passion about what Thermomix can do for everyone, young and old, families big and small.

I’m currently in an incentive to ‘earn’ one which is a wonderful opportunity. For customers who bought recently, Vorwerk UK has a really fair plan for customers. We are being advised to ask our customer base to call in and speak to them directly. So far the feedback has been really positive which I’m pleased about.

And for those who haven’t jumped on the Thermomix bandwagon, you are in a unique position to have a choice. We have never had two options available. For the next 3 months, you can either choose to buy the current Thermomix TM5 at a discount of £100 at £949 for the Connected version or pre-order the new Thermomix at £1099. I feel only die-hard fans will take the pre-order option as they have had TM21, TM31, and TM5 before and just want the new one. For anyone new to Thermomix TM5, the Thermomix TM5 is still our hero.

Happy Thermomixing, whatever model you have to play with!

Update: September 2019

I eat my words. It is better. I’ve had a TM6 since 22nd May 2019 and it is better. I love the bigger screen. Cookidoo being integrated just works. No more having to synchronise. No more faff of forgetting to take my Cook Key with me to friend’s house or for a demonstration. The new functions, like high temperatures, has blown me away. Yes, I have made the peanut brittle and fudge using the sugar stages but it’s the sauteeing that has me convinced. I’m loving the sizzle when caramelising onions and cooking stir-fries. I could never achieve this before in my TM31 or TM5. So for that alone. Would I upgrade? Hell yes.

Highlights of BBC Good Food Show with Thermomix

As an Advisor, we sometimes get to help Thermomix UK at national events. Luckily in London, there’s quite a few and here are some of my highlights of the Good Food Show at Excel, in June.

Always packed with seasonal produce, ideas for al-fresco dining and hundreds of exciting producers and brands to shop from, get all the summer inspiration you need. Soak up expert masterclasses, live demos from the seasonal stages and much more. There Mary BerryTom KerridgeMichel Roux JrNadiya Hussain and James Martin (a Thermomix fan favorite) as they cooked up summer feasts in The Big Kitchen.

Attending events like this is a great way to practice our ‘elevator pitches’ but also a great opportunity to meet other Advisors from other teams, hang out with head office staff and celebrity chefs and actually treat it like a team bonding exercise. As a self-employed individual, we often work alone so exhibitions like this allow us all to be together and hang. The one thing I truly like about this role is what a great bunch of people we are. There are so many reasons people are drawn to the role – either their love for food or their family circumstances, extra income or a step towards a career if they don’t have one. But the reason, they stay in the business is the people. We are a really great bunch of supportive men and women, who genuinely care about well-being, healthy eating and each other.

Here are some of the highlights over the years:

Sneak peek at the Thermomix TM5

So after the surprise announcement of the Thermomix TM5 at the gala dinner on Friday night, after a good sleep, we were given hands-on cooking demonstrations with Thermomixs TM5 on Saturday morning. This where we got our hands on the TM5 for the first time.

Thermomix TM5

Well after giving us an afternoon of relaxation with our Afternoon Tea; to catch up with friends we’ve made during our time as  Advisors, it was time for a quick change for our gala dinner.

I looked up the definition of gala dinner.

Gala Dinner events can be held to celebrate, reward or engage an audience with a brand or service. The evening event will generally feature a three or four-course meal where guests are seated. Many corporate Gala dinners are often staged in inner-city venues for easy access for guests.

So with that, I should have been given a clue that it was a gala dinner that there was to be a surprise but I wasn’t expecting James Martin and the launch of the Thermomix TM5.

As Advisors, we are always asked when the next Thermomix is coming out. Historically, the time period between new models is 10-15 years and the Thermomix TM31 was only released in 2004, so we were on the lower side of that timeline. As an owner first and foremost, I didn’t think that Thermomix could get any better. But woah, was I surprised.

The new Thermomix was a revolution. It had a new design, it had gone digital and it was presented by James Martin, Chef, and presenter of Saturday Kitchen. I’m not sure what was more exciting. The Thermomix or James.
