Christmas Gifting – Amaretti

Christmas is around the corner and homemade Christmas gifts are a great cost-saving and a way to show you care. Here’s a recipe for Amaretti made in the Thermomix and the cost saving you can have compared to buying it.

Amaretti di Saronno refer to a type of amaretto, a bitter-sweet flavored macaron, that is traditional to Saronno, a comune of Lombardy, Italy. It is one of many types of traditional amaretti, but the only one made with apricot kernels.

Ingredients

  • oil, for greasing
  • 2 egg whites, from large eggs
  • 2 tsp honey
  • 1 pinch fine sea salt
  • 180 g ground almonds (see tip)
  • 150 g caster sugar
  • 100 g dried mixed fruit (e.g. apricots, cherries, prunes), quartered
  • 100 g mixed whole nuts (e.g. pistachios, almonds, hazelnuts)
  • icing sugar, for dipping

Preparation

  1. Preheat oven to 190°C and lightly grease a baking tray.
  2. Insert butterfly whisk. Place egg whites, honey and salt in mixing bowl then, without measuring cup, whisk 2 min/speed 3.5. Remove butterfly whisk.
  3. Add ground almonds, sugar, dried fruit and nuts then stir 20 sec/reverse/speed 2.
  4. Using wet hands, shape tablespoons of mixture into small, rough balls and dip half of each ball in icing sugar. Place on prepared tray, icing sugar side up, and bake for 10-12 minutes (190°C) until just golden.
  5. Leave on tray to cool for 5 minutes then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely. Serve or package up to give as gifts.

Hints & Tips

  • The literal translation of these Italian biscuits is ‘the little bitter ones’ as they were traditionally flavoured with bitter almonds. Plain almonds work just as well, and you can grind your own with Thermomix®. Prepare a batch and give as gifts, or serve alongside coffee or dessert wine to add some Italian flair to your Christmas meal.
  • To grind your own almonds, place 180 g blanched almonds in mixing bowl before starting the recipe and grind 10 sec/speed 10. Transfer to a bowl then clean and dry mixing bowl thoroughly before beginning the recipe.
  • In step 3, add 50 g dark or white chocolate chips

Christmas Gifting – Florentines

Christmas is around the corner and homemade Christmas gifts are a great cost-saving and a way to show you care. Here’s a recipe for Florentines made in the Thermomix and the cost-saving you can have compared to buying it.

A Florentine biscuit is a sweet pastry of nuts and fruit. Florentines are made of nuts and candied cherries mixed with sugar melted together with butter and honey, cooked in an oven.

Ingredients

  • 50 g pistachio nuts, unsalted, shelled
  • 30 g walnut halves
  • 75 g unsalted butter, diced
  • 75 g Demerara sugar
  • 15 g double cream
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 30 g dried cherries, halved, quartered if large
  • 60 g mixed candied peel
  • 50 g dried cranberries
  • 60 g flaked almonds
  • 150 g dark chocolate, small pieces or callets

Preparation

  1. Preheat oven to 180°C and line 2 baking trays with baking paper.
  2. Place pistachios and walnuts in mixing bowl then chop 3 sec/speed 7. Transfer to a bowl and set aside.
  3. Place butter, sugar, cream and salt in mixing bowl then melt 3 min/Varoma/speed 1.
  4. Add cherries, candied peel, cranberries, almonds and reserved chopped nuts then mix 10 sec/reverse/speed 3.
  5. Roll tablespoonfuls of mixture (approx. 20 g each) into a ball using hands, place on prepared trays and flatten out as much as possible, leaving 5 cm between each to spread. Bake for 8-10 minutes (180°C) until golden then leave on tray to cool completely. Meanwhile, clean and thoroughly dry mixing bowl.
  6. Place chocolate in mixing bowl, grate 5 sec/speed 8 then melt 4 min/50°C/speed 2.
  7. Spread chocolate evenly over one side of each florentine and leave to set completely (see tip). Store in an airtight container until needed.

Hints & Tips

  • Florentines often have a wavy pattern on the chocolate. If desired, once chocolate is firm enough to hold its shape (30-60 minutes), use a fork to draw wavy lines across the chocolate.

Christmas Gifting – Mince pies

Christmas is around the corner and homemade Christmas gifts are a great cost-saving and a way to show you care. Here’s a recipe for Mince Pies made in the Thermomix and the cost saving you can have compared to buying it.

Ingredients

Shortcrust Pastry

  • 340 g plain flour, plus extra for dusting
  • 75 g unsalted butter, cold, diced
  • 75 g lard, cold, diced
  • 1 pinch fine sea salt
  • 60 g water, ice cold

Assembly and Baking

  • 400 g mincemeat, gluten free (see tip)
  • milk, for brushing
  • icing sugar, for dusting

Preparation

Shortcrust Pastry

  1. Place flour, butter, lard and salt in mixing bowl then mix Turbo/1 sec/4 times.
  2. Add water and mix 20-30 sec/speed 4 until just clinging together. Tip out and bring together into a ball then wrap in reusable wrap or cling film and chill in fridge for 30 minutes.

Assembly and Baking

  1. After this time, preheat oven to 190°C.
  2. On a lightly-floured surface, roll out rested pastry to 3 mm thick. Cut out 24 circles using a pastry cutter (Ø 7 cm) and use to line 2 x 12 hole bun tins. Re-roll any trimmings then cut out 24 pastry lids using star-shaped, tree-shaped or round fluted (Ø 6.5 cm) cutters.
  3. Place 1 tsp mincemeat in each pastry base then cover with a lid, sealing with a brush of milk if using round lids. Brush tops of lids with milk then bake for 18-20 minutes (190°C) until cooked and golden.
  4. Leave in tin to cool for 2 minutes then transfer to a wire rack. Dust with icing sugar and serve warm or at room temperature.

Hints & Tips

  • Homemade mince pies are a joy to make when you have a Thermomix®. Prepare the mincemeat weeks before you need it, then whip up a batch of crisp, buttery shortcrust pastry in seconds. All that’s left is the fun part; making the pies!
  • Make your own Mincemeat following the recipe on Cookidoo®.
  • Can be made ahead and frozen. Defrost fully before serving.
  • Serve with homemade Brandy Butter, homemade Brandy Sauce or pouring cream. Find recipes on Cookidoo®.

Why you shouldn’t wait for a 0% finance offer to buy a Thermomix

How many times do I get customers contacting me, asking “when the next 0% is?” Well, I can safely say that we won’t be having another zero-percent finance offer in 2022, but I will also like to point out why you shouldn’t wait for a 0% finance offer to buy a Thermomix.

  1. Time-Saving: The Thermomix saves time in both the preparation and cooking of your food. A carrot cake mixture takes 30 seconds, a creamy, smooth custard takes 6 minutes and soup which would normally take 1-2 hours on the hob, will cook in 15 minutes from start to finish. Since I have had a Thermomix, I save 45 minutes to 1 hour in the kitchen every meal. Time is money, and the time I save in the kitchen standing, stirring, chopping etc, means I can do something more productive.
  2. Space Saving: our Thermomix replaces over 20 other appliances in the kitchen, so you can throw out (or eBay) your other space-consuming kitchen appliances – food processor, bread machine, juicer, coffee grinder, rice cooker, slow cooker, electric whisks, and electronic scales, safely in the knowledge that one machine does it all. I don’t know about you, but the space saving alone is a reason to buy a Thermomix, especially in cities.
  3. Cost Saving: Although widely used by professional chefs in commercial kitchens, it was designed for use in the home. The serious home cook will benefit from savings of over £1000 a year on food costs and also appreciate the time-saving benefits, including lower energy costs. The average customers saves 10-20% of their weekly shop by the cost savings in not having to buy processed food, or by only buying what they need with Cookidoo’s shopping facility. Many says, that even with more baking and oven usage, their energy bills go down. In today’s market both of these are huge financial savings.

I’ve been a customer and Advisor for so long, that I know these three points to be true. I have also been an Advisor long enough to know that we sold without offers. The Thermomix was x-price and people bought it because of the features, functions & possibilities of how Thermomix could change the way they could by owning one.

Nowadays, where we have regular customer offers, everyone is waiting for that better offers – an additional up-sell gift at a discount, a bundle with a Thermomix Friend or second bowl, a zero-percent finance offer, etc. But rather than wait, let me show you how buying a Thermomix in the month that you want it, in the month that you need it, and in the month that you discover it will always be the wisest option.

Let’s take today for example. I have just been asked when the next 0% finance offer will be. As I said, it won’t come around in 2022 again, but the current deal actually saves more money in the purchase costs than the 0% does anyway.

Let me show you how.

Thermomix TM6: £1189 on our regular 9.9% finance

  • If I take the 12-month plan, the total payable amount is £1251, which is £62 more in total. Divide that by 12 months, and it’s £5.16 a month in finance costs.
  • If I take the 24-month plan, the total payable amount is £1301.16, which is £121.16 more in total. Divide that by 24 months, it’s £5.04 a month in finance costs.
  • You get the idea it’s about £5 a month more.

Thermomix TM6: £1189 on 0% finance

  • Yes, there’s no finance payable but the 0% finance is only available on the 12-month plan.
  • So for anyone wanting to pay 24, 36 and 48 month payment options, you don’t have access to 0%. You’d have to pay the 9.9% options above.
  • In 0% months, we tend to get many applications of consumers not wanting to save money (we all want to save money), but equally we get a lot of declined applications due to affordability.

Thermomix TM6 Black Friday 2022 Offer

Currently, we have a Black Friday offer which is a Thermomix TM6 and a second bowl, for £1219. This is a cost-saving of £139 as a second bowl is priced at £169.

  • If I take the 12-month plan, the total payable amount is £1282.56, which is £63.56 more in total. Divide that by 12-months, it’s £5.29 a month in finance costs.
  • If I take the 24-month plan, the total payable amount is £1343.04, which is £124.04 more in total. Divide that by 24 months, its £5.16 a month in finance costs.
  • It’s still about £5 a month more.
  • But here’s the trick. This offer gives you a second bowl with a saving of £139, so actually even paying the finance costs on 12 or 24-month plans and you are still better off than waiting for a 0% finance plan.
  • Actually, you’re £15 better off with a second bowl.

As you can see having an Advisor who understands Thermomix/ Vorwerk offers and the many advantages of buying now, rather than crying later. I guarantee you are making the right choice.

Christmas Gifting – Thermomix Chocolate Truffles

Christmas is around the corner and homemade Christmas gifts are a great cost-saving and a way to show you care. Here’s a recipe for Chocolate Truffles made in the Thermomix and the cost saving you can have compared to buying it.

Ingredients

Truffles

  • 300 g dark chocolate, small pieces or callets
  • 100 g milk chocolate, small pieces or callets
  • 300 g double cream
  • 20 g unsalted butter, diced
  • 1 pinch fine sea salt
  • 4 tsp brandy

Coatings

  • 20 g desiccated coconut
  • 20 g cocoa powder
  • 80 g pistachio nuts, unsalted
  • 80 g roasted hazelnuts

Preparation

Truffles

  1. Place dark chocolate and milk chocolate in mixing bowl then grate 10 sec/speed 8.
  2. Add cream, butter and salt then melt 5 min/50°C/speed 3. Scrape down sides of mixing bowl with spatula then melt again 1-2 min/50°C/speed 2 until smooth. Set scales to zero then remove 350 g mixture to a bowl (scales will show -350 g) and set aside.
  3. Add brandy and mix 6 sec/speed 3. Transfer to another bowl, cover and label each bowl then set aside in fridge until just firm (approx. 2 hours). Meanwhile, clean mixing bowl and prepare coatings.

Coatings

  1. Place a bowl on mixing bowl lid, weigh in coconut and set aside. Place another bowl on mixing bowl lid, weigh in cocoa powder and set aside.
  2. Place pistachios in mixing bowl and chop 2 sec/speed 6. Transfer to a bowl and set aside.
  3. Place hazelnuts in mixing bowl and chop 2 sec/speed 6. Transfer to another bowl and set aside.

Assembly

  1. Once chocolate is just firm, take approx. ½ heaped Tbsp mixture at a time and roll into balls, then roll in coating of choice. Place in gift boxes or wrap in cellophane to give as gifts.

Hints & Tips

  • These rich, indulgent truffles wouldn’t look out of place in a chocolatiers window, and they are deceptively simple to make when you have a Thermomix®! Stored in the fridge until ready to package up, these make a beautiful gift for your friends and family; simply adjust the flavour and coatings according to their tastes.
  • Adjust flavourings according to taste. Orange extract, peppermint extract, almond extract, Cointreau, Kahlua or cherry brandy also work well.
  • The coatings can be varied too; try chopping different types of nuts, freeze-dried strawberries or raspberries.

Cooking with Thermomix

I’m so lucky to meet so many customers and even better when one of them is a writer. Here is her initial experience of using a Thermomix. Thank you so much!

The Thermomix can be overwhelming in its number of functions but is very easy to use. The robot appliance will guide you through the process of selecting a recipe. It handles all the measurements, timing, stirring, speed and heat levels, and fine-tuning. Simply add the ingredients to the bot and follow the instructions.

In the three weeks that I had the machine, I made eight meals. It is possible to understand the machine’s workings by simply following a recipe.

Risotto is a difficult dish that requires careful stirring. Thermomix risotto has become a legend because it can achieve a velvety texture and still retain a little bit of its bite; al dente to perfection.

The Thermomix can be used to freshly grate parmesan. Simply drop a chunk of cheese into the bowl, and turn it on high for a few seconds. It is capable of finely shredding the cheese, not turning it to mush.

Once the cheese is melted, the Wi-Fi-connected recipe will show you the next steps. Once you have added one quartered onion, and a few cloves of garlic and the machine turns the dial, you can close the lid and put the lid back on. The TM6 chops first, then sautees all the vegetables in the bowl. Once the alliums have been sufficiently seasoned, the TM6 will prompt you to add stock or water. After a few minutes, it will turn the heat off and then ask you to add rice. The TM6 will heat the broth and stir the dish continuously to achieve creamy perfection. You will have a restaurant-quality risotto in no time at all.

I prepared a delicious steamed fish dish with broccoli and a spicy cashew sauce. I also tried butter chicken. The idea of making butter chicken from scratch was something I had never tried. However, the Thermomix TM6 guided me through the process, including chopping, stirring, and cooking it. It was creamy and tangy, and it was very easy to make. I also made pretzel buns using the rice cooker mode. You simply make the dough and then bake the buns in your oven.

It is a wonderful way to bring your family’s recipes into the modern age.

One evening, while browsing through Cookidoo for inspiration, I came across a blackberry-gin cocktail called The Blackberry Bramble. It’s quite fun to discover that this device can make cocktails as well as dinner, making your Thermomix bowl a true cocktail shaker. The TM6 created a lovely violet sipper by adding ice, gin, and fresh blackberries. This was a refreshing change from the usual glass of wine.

The new feature of ThermomixTM6 is the ability to create your own recipes with the Cookidoo App. You can enter your ingredients and measurements and then create the steps. The TM6 will execute them in the correct order. This is a great way for your family to share their recipes with you and make them modern.

Thermomix parts can all be washed in a dishwasher. However, you can clean the motor by using hot water and soap. Pre-Clean is a more thorough cleaning process that can be performed automatically.

Thermomix TM6 has been designed to be a versatile and useful kitchen appliance. It can replace many small appliances, such as blenders, food processors, rice cookers, graters, kettles, and rice cookers, and it can automate many cooking and kitchen tasks. You can cook a meal or a single dish with it, and it will even make it easy to prepare the rest of your meals.

It is quite costly at £1189. But when you consider that it can replace nearly half a dozen appliances or prevent you from buying them again, it makes sense that it will pay off quickly. In the UK, they are also financing plans which help spread the cost.

The product seems solid and well-built. However, Thermomix offers a two-year warranty for domestic and one-year for commercial use as well as a 14-day guarantee for any problems.

The Thermomix TM6 can be a great way to learn about cooking and prepare more delicious meals at home and I would highly recommend it to anyone thinking about getting one.

Be Bowled Over with our latest Thermomix Black Friday Offer

Buy a Thermomix TM6 and a second bowl for £1219.

Available from today to 16th December (or while stocks last) we have created the Ulitmate Black Friday Bundle. Buy a Thermomix TM6 and get a second bowl for £30 (saving £139)

There are so many reasons that this offer is fabulous, that it would take me forever to list them but I’ll try.

Since I do a lot of baking, I love having two bowls for suddenly having to mill that sugar or almonds, or even when I suddenly need ground cinnamon and only have cinnamon sticks. Two bowls are ever so handy and probably, in my opinion, the best accessory to have with a Thermomix.

TOP 5 REASONS FOR HAVING A SECOND BOWL, BLADE, AND LID SET.

  1. Make ingredients from scratch – mill almond meal, icing sugar, or grated Parmesan cheese without stopping the flow of your recipe. Save time when you need to mill sugar, spices, or grains or grate cheese mid-recipe.
  2.  A sparkling clean bowl is a secret to fluffy whipped egg whites and meringue. Use your second bowl to whip your egg whites, and keep your first to continue on with the rest of the recipe. Two of our favourites are the Chiffon Cake and Chocolate Mousse.
  3. Simply being able to swap bowls to reduce cleaning or save time when waiting for ingredients to cool or rest
  4. If you’re catering for special dietary requirements, you may like to allocate one bowl for those recipes to avoid cross-contamination.
  5. Keep one bowl for sweet dishes and one for savoury meals like curries, especially handy if you don’t want your lid stained with turmeric for those who use it.

You can purchase your second through me as an Advisor, at any point. They are priced at £169 and it’s money spent well. It is delivered by DPD courier, which is fully tracked and traced and with free shipping.

WHAT’S IN THE SECOND BOWL, BLADE, AND LID SET BOX?

  • Stainless steel bowl with handle
  • Bowl base
  • Mixing knife
  • Lid with a seal
  • Newly improved measuring cup
  • Simmering basket

Bowl, blade and lid setFor anyone reading this in November 2022, and you already own a Thermomix TM6, there is discounted price when you purchase it as part of Vorwerk’s Black Friday sale.  You can purchase a TM6 Accessory set which includes second bowl, blade, and lid set (mixing bowl complete) PLUS a Thermomix Green Spatula and a Blade Cover Peeler for £149. This would normally be priced at £213, so you are receiving a 30% discount and saving £64. This offer is only available till 30th November, while stocks last.

Thermomix Friend Explained

Thermomix Friend is a cooking companion for your Thermomix. It is designed to cook with the Thermomix® TM6 and TM5. The Thermomix Friend operates on the reverse and up to speed 2, in the temperature range of 37°C to Varoma, and with a cooking time of up to 2 hours. In this blog post, I will give you the top 5 benefits of owning a Thermomix Friend and why you would want one in your kitchen.

TOP 5 BENEFITS OF THERMOMIX FRIEND

  1. Thermomix Friend is small, compact; ready for use, or easy to put away.
  2. Thermomix Friend is a complementary accessory to your Thermomix, it can only go up to speed 2 and is always in reverse. It makes it perfect for simmering, sauteing, and stirring.
  3. Thermomix Friend is ideal for time savings and bulk cooking.
  4. Thermomix Friend can be used in conjunction with Thermomix through guided cooking or can be used standalone manually.
  5. Thermomix can be used for parallel cooking – for example – making two sauces for a midweek meal – tomato sauce in one, cheese sauce in the other – ideal for fussy later, those with allergies or simply to create more choice at dinner time.

WHAT THE THERMOMIX FRIEND ISN’T?

  1. It isn’t a Thermomix replacement.  The Thermomix Friend can be used alongside the Thermomix TM5 and Thermomix TM6 using blue-tooth and guided cooking, but it does not replace a Thermomix.
  2. It cannot chop or blend. The Thermomix Friend operates on the reverse and up to speed 2. Therefore, the initial chopping for a recipe, such as a soup or a curry, needs to be done in the Thermomix and then the bowl transferred to your Thermomix Friend to free up your Thermomix to do something else.

DO YOU REALLY NEED IT?

Well, that is the million-dollar (or pound) question, isn’t it?

If you have a Thermomix TM5 or Thermomix TM6 and need more capacity, then I think it’s great. Priced at £529 for the base and bowl bundle, this is an excellent option to upscale your kitchen. You’ll on my Youtube channels or my Tasty Thursday events, I have really been enjoying using the Thermomix Friend multiple times each week since I received mine in December 2020. I use it mainly for making rice or potatoes and then using the Varoma to steam above it.

Here is a video of my making one of the Thermomix Friend dishes – a delicious Salmon with Potatoes and Mushroom Creamy sauce found on Cookidoo here.

I have had many customers who currently have a Thermomix TM5 and were thinking of upgrading to Thermomix TM6 and Thermomix Friend. At this point, my independent opinion is to keep your Thermomix TM5 and upgrade to the Thermomix TM6. Why? Well, we’ve always said, what’s better than one Thermomix but two. Having two Thermomixes gives you the capabilities of truly doubling your cooking experience and if you have space, then keep it. We all know the value of a Thermomix once we have one in our kitchen, and if upgrading means selling yours on, then we also know that the resale market doesn’t really appreciate the real value of it. You are likely to get £600-750 for a Thermomix TM5 on the second-hand market, but it’s probably worth a lot more than that in reality.

So in my opinion, the Thermomix Friend is amazing. Just like any product that Vorwerk brings out, this is game-changing and ahead of the times. It’s the most perfect accessory for our Thermomixes. The price point is approximately half the cost of a Thermomix, so with that, the features and capabilities are also reduced.  But as an accessory, it’s amazing; you will love it as much as you love your Thermomix.

For October 2022, the Thermomix Friend Bundle is only £199, saving you £330, and a blade cover peeler worth £32 for free. For what it’s worth, a second bowl is normally £169. So this month, for any purchases. Both of these items customers eventually buy anyway, so you’re essentially getting the Thermomix Friend for free. So it is worth it, hell yes, it’s free.

If you would like to see the Thermomix Friend in action, now that it is available to buy in the UK, please get in touch with me on Ankita@onegirlandherthermie.co.uk, or send me a text/ Whatsapp or call me on 07977 563537. I look forward to hearing from you.
