Matcha Smoothie Bowl is perfect to make for a quick nutritious snack or in my case, these days, breakfast. Packed with superfoods like fresh strawberries, bananas, spinach and topped with shredded coconut, cacao nibs, and chia seeds this matcha (green tea) smoothie bowl is light, fresh and delicious.

Unlike smoothies which are normally ‘drunk’ or slurped in my case, every time I make a smoothie bowl, I feel like I’m eating a meal. The fact that I eat it with a spoon makes me feel pretty full. And I also eat is slowly, unlike a smoothie, which is gone in a minute.

Smoothie bowls aren’t new to anyone, but I felt like they needed more admiration. And to be honest, I don’t make them as often as I’d like. This smoothie bowl only takes a few minutes to make and will be nice for a healthy fancy breakfast.

Breakfast on the go in one minute. This breakfast is super start to your “five a day” with this superfood and an antioxidant-loaded bowl of goodness. The creaminess of the yoghurt with the frozen banana turns this protein- and fibre-rich breakfast into a soft-serve-like treat. Add the goodness and earthy flavor of the matcha powder (holds 137 more antioxidants than brewed green tea), the contrasting textures of the fresh berries, seeds and nuts and you will feel ready to tackle whatever the day ahead throws your way.

Simple Matcha Smoothie

Enjoy this simple matcha smoothie as part of your breakfast routine as a snack to pep you up or as a dessert. It’s exceptionally smooth and nutritious and especially in summer one of my favourite recipes to drink.

One serving of matcha tea is the nutritional equivalent of 10 cups of regularly brewed green tea
When you drink matcha you ingest the entire leaf and receive 100% of the nutrients of the leaf Matcha powdered green tea has 137 times more antioxidants than regularly brewed green tea. One cup of matcha = 10 cups of regularly brewed green tea in terms of nutritional content.

Okonomiyaki

Enjoy one of the easiest and most delicious delicacies in Japanese cuisine with this Thermomix okonomiyaki savoury pancake recipe. Okonomiyaki literally means ‘grilled as you like it‘, and is made from seasoned flour, cabbage, and various fresh meats and vegetables mixed together and cooked in a frying pan just like a pancake.

Prepare this easy recipe for lunch or dinner, and watch it become a family favourite.

While the first side is cooking, try frying up some yakisoba noodles and flipping the pancake onto these when cooking the other side for Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki.

During the final stage, try breaking an egg on the top of the pancake, then cover with a wok lid to quickly steam-cook. Serve when the yolk is slightly runny.

Recipe for Okonomiyaki sauce: 20 g honey, 30 g Japanese soy sauce, 60 g tomato ketchup, 40 g Worcestershire sauce – mix together and drizzle on top of the pancake.

Kewpie mayonnaise can be substituted for any other mayonnaise too.

OMG… I am missing Japan like crazy right now. This happens from time to time. You see, between the years I spent living in Japan and the fact that I have just come back from 2 weeks showing my family the highlights of this amazing country,  there is a real hold the land of the rising sun has on me. Japanese culture is so much a part of my life and the trip was so easy, even with my 6-year old as we eat so much Japanese food at home and when we go out too. Watch out for a plethora of Japanese inspired recipes over the next weeks but for today, I’ll give you an easy one to make, Japanese Salad Dressing. 

This Japanese Salad dressing really hits the spot. This is the ubiquitous restaurant style dressing you get on your starter salad with all your kaiseki meals in Japan. It’s delicious, super easy to make and, if you’re like me, it’s a comforting reminder of home.

Goma dressing

Goma salad dressing is hugely popular in Japan. It’s perfect to make salads tasty. 

I’ve lost count of the number of times someone has asked me for the recipe for this. Here in London, Japanese sesame (goma) salad dressing is to hard to find and expensive to buy in Asian supermarkets.

This recipe shows how quick, easy and cheap it is and I guarantee you won’t be able to tell the difference. By the way, ‘goma’ means sesame in Japanese. This rich dressing can make a plain salad really come to life and is packed full of nutritious goodness.
